Geek Deal: Stream high quality movies for free via Blinkbox this week

Today, the Full Stream Ahead campaign will allow residents in the UK to try out digital movie streaming absolutely for free for the next 7 days. The campaign is backed by both the UK Film Council and BFI (British Film Institute) and will give movie fans the chance to watch a whole host of their favourite movies at home for free while aiming to deter users from piracy. Hollywood studios have teamed up with the UK's Blinkbox with last year's smash hit's Sherlock Holmes, Avatar and Up In The Air among many available for streaming. All you have to do is access the Blinkbox website sometime today (June 8th), and you will be offered £20 to spend on movies which you will then be able to view on your computer or on your TV (if you know how to link it up!) It seems that the huge success of music streaming services such as Spotify, is behind the drive to stop the piracy that has spread across the industry as well as the huge success of TV Streaming services such as BBC iPlayer and SkyPlayer. Co-founder of Blinkbox says of the action;
"By the time the music industry enabled strong and good-quality legal (streaming) services it was arguably too late. We are in the early days of digital retail for movies, and our ambition is to make people aware of the benefits of streaming services before it is too late."
Blinkbox is already a huge hit with more than 1.2 million users a month. Between them, approximately 5 million streams are watched each month. Although not in High Definition quality, it's clearly good enough. What do you think about online movie streaming? Is it already too late? GEEK DEAL is a new regular feature on Obsessed With Film.
