Geostorm Review: 2 Ups & 8 Downs

8. Too Much Talking, Not Enough Destruction

Geostorm Jim Sturgess
Warner Bros.

Even though Geostorm clocks in a fairly reasonable 109 minutes (especially as the end credits for effects-heavy movies are always about 10 minutes long), it's surprising how much of the film is padded out with overt exposition and boring dialogues.

Though the trailers tried to suggest differently, this is more a political thriller than a disaster movie at its core, doubling down on a fiercely bad espionage plot while the destruction porn ends up taking a back seat.

More to the point, most of the set-pieces were already shown off in the trailers, and if you're going into this hoping for sustained sequences of wanton mayhem, you'll probably be pretty disappointed.
