Craig Zobel's (Compliance) second feature is a quietly compelling post-apocalyptic drama about the tensions that emerge when three survivors (Margot Robbie, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Chris Pine) become entwined in a love triangle.
Low on dialogue and clearly far more interested in the slow-building tension between the focal trio than outrageous action or overt melodrama, this is visually gorgeous sci-fi with terrific world-building and a moody score.
Fans of more conventional genre fare might balk at its more illusive qualities, but it's got a terrific sting in its tale, is marvelously acted and leaves plenty to think about once the end credits roll.
