Switching gears from the big-budget blockbuster realm to something decidedly more pared-down, The One I Love is a fascinating relationship drama with a nifty genre twist, where a couple (Mark Duplass and Elizabeth Moss) heads to a tranquil holiday home to save their marriage, only to discover a very bizarre surprise awaiting them.

To say any more than that would be criminal, but rest assured that this is without question a sci-fi film, making the most of its low-budget to ask probing questions about the nature of love and contemporary relationships.

There are no flashy effects or set-pieces here, but the performances are superb and it's no less valid an entry into the genre than anything else.
