Ghost In The Shell: 15 Recent Sci-Fi Movies That Were Far Superior

Jeff Nichols' (Take Shelter, Mud) fourth feature marks his first venture into card-carrying sci-fi territory, delivering a tense and terrifically acted chase movie as a father (Michael Shannon) attempts to protect his supernaturally gifted son (Jaeden Lieberher) from the advances of both the authorities and a sinister cult.

Its slow-burn nature won't be to all tastes, but Nichols has such a firm handle on tone and action that it's hard not to be entranced by this oddball odyssey.

The ending won't satisfy those who demand absolute closure, but it's brilliantly thought-provoking and proof perfect of Nichols' incredible versatility as a filmmaker.
