Fans should rest easy: a litany of the anime's most memorable and beloved scenes, both dialogue-driven and action-centric, are recreated here in spectacular fashion, and are sure to leave even the most hardcore GITS devoted unable to resist cracking a smile.

Changes are made to most of the big scenes, yes, but there's a ton of iconic imagery here that feels note-perfect in its transition to the live-action form, particularly The Major beating up the garbage man, her hanging out with The Major on the boat, and her climactic confrontation with the spider-mech.

Even if you end up disliking the film, it's hard to argue with Rupert Sanders' dedication to bringing these unforgettable moments to the big screen. Impressive isn't even the word.
