Ghostbusters: 11 Things That Must Happen In The Sequel

9. Less "Homages" To The Original Movies

It's reasonable that the new Ghostbusters movie nods its head repeatedly to the original movies, considering that this is the first entry into the series in almost three decades, and it makes sense that Sony would want the more recognisable branding aspects of the series to re-appear in a new film.

That said, now that the film has garnered solid reviews and seems to be performing just fine at the box office, it'd be nice if the sequel wasn't quite so keen to milk pre-existing iconography but rather create its own contribution to pop-culture.

Yes, the occasional reference can be fun, but considering how blatantly Ghostbusters rehashed the plot of the original, it ended up feeling more lazy than an actual tribute.

In much the same way as Star Wars: The Force Awakens was an overly safe recycling of A New Hope and we're hoping for a more ambitious and adventurous sequel, Ghostbusters 2 needs to up its game or critics and fans might not be quite so kind next time.
