Ghostbusters: 21 WTF Moments In The Female Remake
13. Kevin, The Barely Functioning Moron
There is something to be said about the commentary involved in making the Ghostbusters' secretary an attractive man who is hired simply because he's good-looking and one of the bosses want to bang him. It's long been a cliche in particularly macho films (see Bond), after all.
But Kevin is not sufficiently cleverly written to really sell that commentary. He is a pantomime idiot, who is as dumb as a housebrick for apparently not reason other than to say and do stupid things. He's a victim of jokes, is probably profoundly mentally disturbed (given that he attempts to block out sound by putting his fingers in his eyes) and he walks into things.
Is this the kind of observed comedy that we should expect from SNL graduates? It's ludicrous to the point of being insulting, and I cannot fathom for one minute why a man who CANNOT ANSWER A TELEPHONE is being professed as the film's stand-out character.
