Ghostbusters: Afterlife Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
1. It Hints At More Sequels To Come
While the film's finale does offer an affecting farewell of-sorts to the O.G. Ghostbusters, Hollywood hasn't ever been one to let well alone, and of course, its post-credits scene can't help but heavily imply more Ghostbusters movies will be on the way starring the younger cast.
Obviously everything depends upon how Afterlife performs with audiences, but between its sensibly modest budget and solid box office tracking so far, it seems likely to be a firm commercial success.
And so, we're probably on track for a couple more Ghostbusters films over the next five-or-so years, led by characters who aren't really interesting enough to carry the IP.
As a one-off ending to the franchise Afterlife might've earned a little more goodwill, but its desperation to re-establish Ghostbusters as an ongoing cinematic "brand" can't help but whiff of cynicism.
These issues accepted, Afterlife does get a fair amount right. Here's what works in the movie...
