Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Review - 4 Ups & 6 Downs

Ups...

4. Dan Aykroyd Steals The Show

In one of Frozen Empire's few genuine pleasant surprises, original franchise cast member Dan Aykroyd not only has a much bigger role than expected, but basically ends up stealing the show.

You can barely even call Aykroyd's Ray Stantz a supporting character in the movie - he's got almost as much screen time as the Spengler family, and many multiples more than either Winston (Ernie Hudson) or especially Peter (Bill Murray), with the latter only showing up for a glorified cameo.

Aykroyd is clearly having a blast sliding back into his most iconic role, bringing an entertainingly manic energy and childlike fascination with the supernatural to the fore, ensuring he bonds quite organically with the Spengler kids.

What could've been a lazy paycheck role for Aykroyd at least feels like something he genuinely wanted to do, and in turn he gives the most spirited performance in the entire movie.
