Giorgio Serafini Interview: Senior Moment, Working With William Shatner And Christopher Lloyd, More

The Big Bang Theory Theodore Christopher Lloyd
CBS

How did Christopher Lloyd get involved with the film?

Serafini: I think it was Gina and I that put Christopher at the top of our lists [to be involved]. We were a little bit skeptical that he would accept just because the role doesn't have that many lines. He's in a lot of scenes, but he doesn't have that many lines. I was obviously very wrong because I should've have known that he can find his place in a scene even if he doesn't say a word. During shooting, I said to Chris, “You know, I would like to write a silent movie for you.” He's fantastic, he can find his footing in every single scene.

Their chemistry sounds like it must have been fantastic both on and off screen. How great of a pairing did Shatner and Lloyd end up being?

Serafini: They were a perfect match. There are some movies where the cast comes together so well. I knew it while I was shooting it, but when I was watching it during the editing process, I was like, “This is amazing.” Everybody understood the film and their characters and it was easy for them to get in the role. Even of all these actors, they had very different ways of approaching the material.

Bill is very intuitive. Christopher comes to set already as the character and stays in character during the whole shooting, which is fun. Thank god it was a comedy [laughs]. Jean Smart thinks about every single detail, but at the end, they come together really, really well and that's what counts. That's the important thing for the film.
