Giorgio Serafini Interview: Senior Moment, Working With William Shatner And Christopher Lloyd, More
Do you have any funny stories from the set of the film? There must have been at least one or two given who was there.
Serafini: I have one, and I think you're the first person I've told this to. The first day of shooting, I did a scene where my wife is playing in it and she plays the ex-lover of William Shatner. Nobody knew she was my wife. Nobody knew until much later in the shooting. After three days, Bill Shatner came to me and said, “When are we continuing to do a scene with LaDon [Giorgio's wife]?” He said it in such a way... I was very pleased because here is a man who went where no other man went before and we actually have the same taste in women. I'm sorry, Bill, but I think she's taken [laughs].
Between the actors, there was a lot of improvisation like the whole scene where Bill is in the hospital and gets dressed. I don't think that was in the script, the scene itself. The other thing is of course Bill's love for cars. When we went shooting with that BMW in the desert, there was no way you could get him out of the car. He started going around and around and I wasn't going to stop him.
Was getting Shatner involved in a project of yours a bucket list item for you?
Serafini: Well, I don't know about bucket list, but it was definitely a blessing to be able to do this film with Bill. First of all, we had the opportunity to work on the script, the two of us, before we shot the movie, so by the time we were on set, there was a perfect understanding of where to go with the film. I thought I was the ultimate workaholic. I'm nothing compared to Bill. Bill is 90-years-old, but he has a dynamic that's like no one I've ever met. He's funny and very intuitive and always very nice and pleasant. There was nothing that went wrong with any of these actors. It was really a blessing.
