Giorgio Serafini Interview: Senior Moment, Working With William Shatner And Christopher Lloyd, More
It's amazing to think Shatner recently turned 90-years-old, isn't it?
Serafini: It's funny. I was talking to my mother on the phone and she was in Europe. I came on set and said, “Bill, because of you, I just insulted my mother.” He said, “What are you talking about?” I go, “Yeah, because she's 15 years younger than you and she was complaining about health problems.” I think he was 87 then [when we filmed] and he would do things like jump in the pool and be on all fours on gravel. It's amazing the things he would do and also how fast he is. It's almost like having someone my age next to him.
How did Senior Moment differ from other projects you've done up to this point in your career?
Serafini: I love to work. I love to be on set and the communication with different people. I love to try different kinds of movies. The whole process really excites me and that's why I do all different types of films. I have to admit, this was my first comedy and I loved it. I love to do a film that is less technical and closer to the acting and how the characters come together. I loved it so much that after this one I shot another film that is also comedy. I shot it in Italy, so it's an Italian movie. I really love to do that and my next project is an American comedy.
I love the process of working with actors and if you do the right casting, especially for comedy, you have a fantastic chemistry that happens and the role of the director is to keep that chemistry as creative as possible. The difficult part of directing a film like this is to step back a little bit from what you have in mind. You're working with these actors and you have to let them be as creative as possible. It was a fantastic experience.
Senior Moment is available now theatrically and digitally.
