And last but not least, we have the final rug-pull, that Elijah was on a suicide mission for the entirety of the movie, deliberately escaping through the hospital's basement in order to be captured on as many surveillance cameras as possible.

As it turns out, he had hacked the hospital's surveillance systems to stream to an outside source, which he arranged to have sent to Casey, Joseph and his mother (Charlayne Woodard) following the final showdown.

The film then ends with the three uploading the footage and waiting for it to go viral. It's certainly not the worst part of the ending, but if at least one of the supers had stayed alive and gone into hiding - perhaps with Dunn seeking out other supers - then it would've been decidedly easier to appreciate.
