13. Godzilla Was Meant To Fight Frankenstein
Although fans of the monster genre were excited to see Godzilla square off against King Kong in 1962, the original pitch was Godzilla vs Frankenstein. In this script, Dr. Frankenstein cobbled a monster from dead animals and forced it to fight Godzilla.
Because Frankenstein is incredibly popular in Germany, Germans were furious when the character was swapped out for Kong. Out of spite, it is said in the German dub that the monsters Godzilla fights in the later movies are creations of Frankenstein.
In Godzilla VS MechaGodzilla, the main character battles a robotic version of himself. In the German version, MechaGodzilla is called... King Kong... even though MechaGodzilla clearly does not look like an ape.
But the confusion doesn't stop there. Godzilla vs the Sea Monster was supposed to be a King Kong film called Operation Robinson Crusoe. It is obvious that Kong was meant to be the lead character because Godzilla sleeps in a cave instead of the ocean even though he is an aquatic creature.
Also, he is awoken with electricity which is how Kong is awoken in King Kong VS Godzilla. On top of that, Godzilla shows affection to a female character, which is a recurring trait of Kong.
