2. The Score
It was hard going to decide whether this should swap places with no.3 on this list. However, I thought the potential impact from a nerve shedding score was just too much to resist. Many people underestimate the power a great musical score has on a film. From the words of Steven Speilberg himself ''John Williams score was responsible for over 50 percent of the success Jaws had''. A score has the potential to make or break a film. Or turn it from an average film to a great film. It's amazing how if we hear a piece of music from a movie it can trigger a truly great film/scene in our head. This needs to happen with Godzilla. Give us something truly amazing and epic in scale, such is the legend of Godzilla. Of course the actual theme of Godzilla himself will be the most important of the film. However, it should not be forgotten how important it is to do justice to our main characters. Depending on how good the score is will again determine how much we relate and care about these characters. Whether they are interacting with each other in romance/plot building/action scenes etc. it doesn't matter. Just make sure the music grips us and then the rest will follow suit...hopefully. If this film can have even half the impact of such iconic scores down the years it will have done a good job. Do we really want just another generic action adventure music piece to listen to? Can you think of one piece of music from Godzilla 1998 that really made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up?...me either.
