Godzilla: 5 Ways To Make The Reboot Awesome

3. The Cast/Story

OK I€™m sort of cheating here but these two things really will be highly relevant to each other. Now by the looks of things the cast of this film looks to be a very interesting one. We have Aaron Johnson of Kick Ass fame, Elizabeth Olsen proving herself to be a very capable actress in recent films such as Silent House and the ever fantastic Bryan Cranston from the equally fantastic Malcolm in the Middle€oh and a little show called Breaking Bad. So right there we have the basis for a great cast and a great story to be told with them. The question is what story could be told about a giant lizard that destroys everything without being too generic?- see 1998 film. Coming from the director himself we have heard that this film is being treated as a small scale character piece on Godzilla and its characters, whilst just happening to a major blockbuster. Whilst it certainly won€™t be easy, if we can get the right balance of the key components that would make this film epic, we could end up with the spectacle of a monster blockbuster whilst still having a thrilling adventure story. Think about Jurassic Park, right there is a prime example of how spectacle and story can co-exist in a film and produce movie magic. The big payoff in Jurassic Park was how the main attraction of the T-Rex and to some extent the Raptors were held back for big reveals. Whilst of course the premise of these films is different the goals and intrigue is the same. This again relates back to having a solid cast to work with. It cannot just be the Godzilla show. Whilst we are all eager to see the king return, the appeal of having characters the audience care about should not be underestimated. We need to be fear for our heroes€™ well-being and be equally relieved when/if they manage to get to safety.
