Godzilla: King Of The Monsters - What Does The Ending Really Mean?

4. But Kong Clearly Doesn't Think So

Godzilla may have been met on the battlefield by almost all of the other Titans, but one monster that was noticeably absent was Kong. The Eighth Wonder of the World had been referenced a number of times throughout the film, and yet, he never surfaced, leaving audience members wondering why he wasn't worshipping at the altar of his lord and saviour Gojira.

Given that the pair are set to collide next year, it makes sense that Kong wasn't present for Godzilla's coronation. After all, he wasn't spotted destroying cities around the world either so, while it's likely that he heard and spoke Ghidorah's language, he clearly didn't worship the temporary king - otherwise, we would have seen him destroy, well, anything - so why would he worship the permanent one?

Kong is the undisputed king of Skull Island, watching over it and protecting it, just as Godzilla watches over the rest of the world. With that in mind, it's likely that the iconic ape has no intention of bowing down to any other entity - no matter how powerful they are.

As far as Kong's concerned, he is still the king, so it doesn't take a Monarch scientist to figure out that these differing views will cause some conflict between the two rulers, ultimately leading to their 2020 clash.
