Godzilla Vs. Kong: 20 WTF Moments

8. Lance Reddick's Totally Pointless Cameo

Godzilla vs Kong
Warner Bros.

Celebrated character actor Lance Reddick shows up for a literal hot minute in the movie as the director of Monarch, who informs Dr. Mark Russell (Kyle Chandler) that he's ordered the evacuation of Hong Kong as the mega-brawl between Godzilla and Kong kicks off.

Reddick improves basically anything he shows up in, but it's pretty baffling that he's in this movie for mere seconds of screen time, especially as he previously appeared in the director's thriller film The Guest.

Wingard recently confirmed that Reddick actually filmed a more fleshed-out role which was unfortunately cut during the editing process when various elements of the plot were revised.

"Originally, Lance's part was a little bit bigger as he plays the Monarch director, he's running the organization...There was a scene earlier in the film, a big board room scene where they're setting up the mission. He had a larger role, but ultimately we didn't need that scene, we changed a couple of plot details during the editing process, so that earlier stuff got cut. Now, that stuff just counts as a fun cameo. He is still top credited, it's still part of his contract. It's funny because he shows up in the opening credits and then turns up for four lines, maybe three, in the movie ultimately."

Hopefully these scenes might see the light of day as digital extras, because more Lance Reddick is always a good thing.
