Speaking of fights, Godzilla vs. Kong's appeal boils down to one simple fact - watching a 400-foot gorilla take on an equally large fire-breathing lizard. And the early shots are a wonder to watch. There is something deliriously entertaining about Godzilla clambering aboard the aircraft carrier, only to be met with the massive fist of Kong landing right on his face.
This is the fight of the ages that monster movie fans have wanted for years, and we are finally going to get treated to the ultimate kaiju showdown that Warner Bros. have been building towards since 2015.
Building off the back of the success that 2014's Godzilla enjoyed at the box office, Legendary announced that a shared universe of Godzilla and Kong would be brought to life, resulting in rife speculation of an eventual showdown. Kong: Skull Island (2017) was then released, and made no secret of laying the groundwork for this brawl. Which is where the series has finally got to.
An added ingredient in this fight is a weapon Kong wields that can apparently deflect or absorb Godzilla's atomic fire. It's an added flourish in what already promises to be the fight of the ages.
