Golden Globes 2017: 7 Ups & 6 Downs
2. Billy Bob Thornton's Best Actor Award
Not so much a surprise, since most predictors saw it coming, but that doesn't make it any better. Billy Bob Thornton is undoubtedly a good actor, and gives a good performance in Goliath, an Amazon show that few people seemed to watch when it was released in October last year.
But this was a stacked category, led by the Emmy-winner Rami Malek (Mr Robot) and the incredible Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), as well as Matthew Rhys (the perennially overlooked The Americans). Odenkirk would've been my personal pick, for a heartachingly good performance as Jimmy McGill, though either of the other two names mentioned would've been worthy winners. Instead, the Globes opted to go for the movie-star-turned-TV-actor, which as stated isn't a surprise, but was disappointing.
