Golden Globes 2017: 7 Ups & 6 Downs

1. Jimmy Fallon

After years of Ricky Gervais and then Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler, the host of this years Golden Globes was always going to have a lot to live up to. Unfortunately, it never seemed like Jimmy Fallon was going to be up to the task.

For the most part Fallon was completely forgettable, and indeed he did largely disappear after an opening monologue that saw him fail to deal with a teleprompter issue (tough, sure, but he could've made a better first of it, and at least returned with something stronger than that Mariah Carey joke), perform a weird (at best) Chris Rock impression, and insult Donald Trump with the unease of a man desperate to be liked by everyone in America (and as if he hadn't had him on his own show and ruffled his f**king hair, like he's a loveable uncle and not a complete demagogue).

The only real attempt at a joke he made later in the show was when introducing Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne, or, as he put it, Chastain and the Redmayne (see, it's like 'Insane in the Membrane', apparently). The Globes are usually better than the Oscars, but with the superior Jimmy Kimmel hosting those this year, that is surely about to change.

What did you think of this year's Golden Globes? Let us know down in the comments.
