1. Gary Oldman Wins A Consolatory Best Actor Award
Gary Oldman finally won his first ever Golden Globe after working 40 years in the film industry, and it's crystal clear that his Best Actor win was effectively a consolation award.
Oldman gave an entertaining, if rather hammy and over-the-top performance as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, and ultimately it's hard to see how his performance can be deemed superior to, say, Timothée Chalamet in Call Me by Your Name.
Yes, there's no accounting for taste, but this and his inevitable Oscar win are undeniable "make-up" awards after a celebrated career without many gold statues at all. To that end it's hard to get too angry about it, but at the same time, Oldman simply didn't deserve the award this time.
