Golden Globes 2021: Biggest Surprises & The Worst Snubs
6. Al Pacino In Hunters Is Nominated
Amazon's Hunters is by no means a bad series and has been a thoroughly enjoyable watch for any audience that has seen it. However, it wasn't anything groundbreaking or particularly new either.
So, why then has Al Pacino been nominated for Best Actor In A Television Series Drama? Is somebody seriously saying that he was better than Pedro Pascal in The Mandalorian? Because that just isn't true.
The reasoning is painfully obvious when thinking about it, he's Al Pacino. One of the greatest actors of all time, no questions or arguments here. He has also made the transition from films to TV for the first time in the modern era and the nomination may just be an attempt to encourage other big names to do the same. We already know that Pacino's call to go to TV streaming convinced Nicolas Cage to do Tiger King's Joe Exotic series, which will no doubt be nominated when it arrives.
So, whilst the shunning of Pascal does hurt a bit for all of those that just love The Mandalorian (which is everybody), Pacino's nomination seems to be about recognising legends whilst they're still here.
