Groundhog Day: 7 Pressing Questions You Probably Missed

1. Who Is This Man, And What Has He Done With Bill Murray?

GroundHog Day Cover

There is no excuse for poor blu-ray covers in this day and age, but because of the intricacies and idiosyncracies of artistic taste, it's fairly rare that all designs will be universally loved. The abomination that is the Groundhog Day cover above is an entirely different story: that man on the right, with his fat chubby waxen face bears slight resemblance to Bill Murray, but it's certainly not the same man in the film within the box. And why are his hands so freakishly over-sized? What needs to be asked is why the hell hasn't this image been cleaned up or removed entirely in favour of something more iconic for the cover, like the infamous bed-side alarm clock for instance? The film has to be an essential part of every discerning film lover's collection, and yet the cover is nothing short of an impediment. Roll on the Criterion version of Groundhog Day I say, or when someone similar puts together a definitive edition including multiple commentaries, visual essays and a cover that doesn't look a bargain basement knock-off. The Answer Sadly, it's just a really, really bad image of Bill Murray. Happy Groundhog Day.
