Guardians Of The Galaxy: 10 Glaring Flaws Everybody Just Ignored

5. The Changes In Tone Are Frequently Jarring

Okay, so it was always going to be difficult to make a movie like Guardians of the Galaxy - a sci-fi comedy set both in space and within a shared universe - whilst keeping a consistent tone running throughout. For the most part, Guardians manages to juggle its shifts in tone fairly well, but there are points at which the changes of tone actually unhinge the picture, sucking out the tension and drama inherent to certain scenes. One of the best examples of this occurs after the Guardians have faced-off against Ronan. It's the climax of the movie, there's a lot at stake, and then... well, Peter Quill does a dance to distract Ronan from brutally murdering him. Contrary to his established persona, Ronan actually stops and addressed Quill's actions, essentially making himself look really stupid. As a result, he no longer feels like anything close to a threat.
