Guardians Of The Galaxy: 10 Reasons Marvel Need It To Succeed

4. There's A 2014 Precedent To Maintain

Fox Studios20th Century FoxRather remarkably, as of writing this article, the top three grossing films of 2014 are X-Men: Days of Future Past ($726 million), Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($712 million) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ($705 million). Essentially, this is the year of the comic book movie and they are truly bossing proceedings. Marvel will not want their riskiest and most ambitious project to date to be the odd one out on that front. Granted, they're all essentially Marvel movies and one of them is, of course, part of the same franchise (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), but it would be bitterly disappointing if Guardians of the Galaxy didn't emulate the success of the other comic book movies of this year - a year when fans are clearly going wild for Marvel products/titles.
