It is arguably the most successful movie franchise of all time, with nine releases to date, all of which have made a profit at the box office, none of which have Rotten Tomatoes ratings below 65% and two of which have smashed the one billion dollar mark at the worldwide box office - both of which are in the top six highest-grossing movies of all time. It is a mega-franchise, an uber-brand and, frankly, a cultural phenomenon and Marvel won't want it tarnished by a dud movie, because it could potentially jeopardise everything they do from here on in - and ruin several years of hard work and planning as a result.
