Guardians Of The Galaxy: 10 Reasons Marvel Need It To Succeed

3. It Has A Lot Of Competition In July And August

20th Century Fox20th Century FoxIf Guardians of the Galaxy does fail at the box office, the failure will be emphasised and indeed worsened by the fact that it has an awful lot of competition at its time of release, in the weeks leading up to its release and in the weeks following its release. Had the movie been released without the company of a large number of other big films, it might have drawn a few extra viewers due to a lack of other options, but the fact that its time in theatres coincides with the likes of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Hercules, Sex Tape, Lucy and The Expendables 3 (and indeed with the likes of Transformers: Age of Extinction and Maleficent still lingering) means that it needs to attract viewers of its own accord, without them having to choose it because it's the only thing worth seeing.
