Guardians Of The Galaxy: 20 Easter Eggs & References You Must See

6. Michael Rooker's OG Guardian

Remember how this lot weren't the first to hold the title of the Guardians Of The Galaxy? One of the members of the original team was none other than Yondu Udonta, a blue-skinned €œnoble savage€ from Centauri-IV who appears in this film played by Michael Rooker, the racist one from The Walking Dead who cut his foot off. He also starred in James Gunn's Slither as well - so he counts as a personal Easter Egg for the director. In this case Yondu is something of a father figure to Peter Quill, the mercenary who picked him up from Earth and was charged with returning him to his real dad. What he actually did - once he convinced his crew not to eat the kid, since they'd never tasted Terran before - was adopt Star-Lord and raise him as his own, teaching him the ways of the scavenger and living to regret that went the hot-headed Quill escapes from under his thumb and starts trying to swindle him. This Yondu Udonta is pretty different from the one in the comics. His adventuring days are just way in the past, and for some reason he chose to replace his huge red mohawk with that weird metal implant he has in his skull. It's nice to hold on to the idea that Yondu was once a noble hero, but abandoned that lifestyle to become a junker. It'd make sense that his adoptive son would then end up following a similar path, despite seeming to be relatively amoral to begin with.
