Guardians Of The Galaxy: 20 Easter Eggs & References You Must See

17. A Dark Elf

Well, that's future plot speculation out of the way for now, let's get back to some pure geekery. The scene where the Guardians enter The Collector's chambers is probably the biggest smorgasbord of nerdy comic book in-jokes since that bit in X-2 where they go through the computer with files on, like, half the extended ensemble cast of the comics. Bearing in mind this is based on a single viewing, during which the primary focus was inevitably upon concentrating really, really hard to not get a migraine from those big IMAX 3D glasses it was still possible to notice a handful of pretty cool shout outs to fans amongst the items of Tivan's collection. Most obvious was the Dark Elf - clearly one of the hordes of enemies who started messing up London at the end of Thor: The Dark World - trapped in a box and looking decidedly sorry for itself. It's unclear how he got there, but it's a nice MCU unifying reference all the same, as well as something of a middle finger to those who criticised the creatures as one of the worst parts of the disappointing Thor sequel.
