Guardians Of The Galaxy: 20 Easter Eggs & References You Must See
16. Howard The Duck
Yep, you read that correctly, Howard the Duck is in this movie. Created by Steve Gerber back in the seventies, Howard The Duck was an intentionally ridiculous character. The last surviving member of a planet full of foul-talking feathered friends who walk around on their hind legs and wear clothes, Howard's series was an existentialist, satirical piece of metafiction that poked fun at the conventions of the superhero genre and dared readers to take the idea of a randy humanoid duck seriously. Which, unfortunately, some people did. Including George Lucas. Yep, none of than the creator of Star Wars brought Howard to the big screen, producing the 1986 film adaptation that saw a pretty creepy Duck puppet knocking boots with Marty McFly's mom from Back To The Future. The movie was a total box office bomb, and even today has yet to become a cult classic, mostly because it is unforgivably weird. Anyway, Howard's another one you'll have to hunt for, seen for just a second in another see-through box above the Elf.
