5. Star Lord
Peter Quill (or Star Lord) is at the helm of the Guardians, the charismatic team leader and balls-to-the-wall improviser. It is unclear how much of SL's origins will remain consistent with the comics, but if they are at all similar, then he will have some fairly interesting and not entirely earthbound parents. Star Lord is the Indiana Jones of space, all dry quips and 'making-this-up-as-I-go' style, despite actually being very clever and resourceful. Things never seem to go right for Star Lord, and he can sometimes give over the impression that he is barely able to hold the team together (he can). Essentially just a man who wants (sometimes reluctantly) to the right thing, "Star Lord" may seem like a cheesy title, but - trust me - he's earned it. Whether it's in the face of monster space squids or universal annihilation, he has more than proven his metal. The casting of Chris Pratt would seem to be a result of his turn as Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation, which exemplifies the devil-may-care attitude and self-humiliating comedy that is key for this character. Star Lord takes his job seriously but not himself - he's fully aware of how odd his predicament is, but he has no qualms about it. If Pratt is any bit as physical as he is in Parks and Recreation, then his adoption of this character will be a true joy to see. As the only near-human member of the team, it's Star Lord who people will best relate to.
