Mantis is a telepath and martial arts expert who will be played by Pom Klementieff of Oldboy remake fame in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2. Besides the returning stars, shes actually the only cast member we know about at the time of writing. Must be important, then. In the comics, this character once notably helped Star-Lord get the Guardians back together when theyd split up (using her telepathic powers), which could provide a tease of how James Gunn will use her in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2. Perhaps things havent gone swimmingly for gang in the gap between movies and they need coercion to help Quill out on his next mission. Mantis is traditionally a half-Vietnamese/half-German superhero, whose parents turned out to be supervillains. She was raised by Kree priests who granted her the mind control abilities. Its unclear if Gunn will stick to this Earthly-mixed-with-Kree origin or just make Mantis an outright alien in the name of simplicity. Either way, this is one new character that we know for sure will appear in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2.
