Guardians Of The Galaxy 2: 9 Big Implications Of Star-Lord's Father Reveal
6. Peter Quill's About To Lose Another Parent
In the comics, Mar-Vell died of cancer, just as Meredith Quill did herself so heart-breaking in Guardians Of The Galaxy. While it might be a little too much to kill him the same way (unless there's some narrative reason for them both getting cancer - it's entirely possible), you have to suspect he's not going to last. Nobody wants to see another Indiana Jones situation where Peter Quill is entirely over-shadowed by his more powerful, more legendary father, after all. And if Marvel are indeed going to set up Mar-Vell as the key to Captain Marvel's origin story (surely that's got to be inevitable), it would make sense to have the incident that leads to their transferral of power fatal to Mar-Vell. It's harsh, but it's better for the film's drama, and it makes Star-Lord more interesting.
