Guardians Of The Galaxy 2: Everything We Know So Far

4. The Plot Is Totally Original And Will Involve Peter Quill's Father

Despite the fact that James Gunn could have culled a dozen plots from the Guardians Of The Galaxy comic books, he ultimately opted for a story of his own invention. In his own words, he's gone for a totally new concept:
"It€™s not really based on anything. The story for Guardians 2 is an original story that I came up with that I started working on actually while I was shooting Guardians 1, and it€™ll answer some of the questions that were put forth in the first movie about Peter Quill€™s father and who he is and what€™s going on with that. It€™s different than what€™s in the comic books. Peter Quill€™s father is somebody different in the comics."
Yes, Guardians 2 is set to answer some big questions with regards to Peter Quill's mysterious alien father character, who, as Gunn has confirmed, is not Prince J'son of Spartoi like he is in the comic books, but instead an original character of unknown origin. The director also reaffirmed the father/son themes in a later interview, stating that: "We get to learn a lot more about fathers in the second movie; we focus a lot on that." No word yet who will play said father character, but you can bet that Gunn will attempt to cast somebody pretty awesome as Chris Pratt's dad. If you're playing Chris Pratt's mysterious alien dad, after all, then you need an inspired casting decision. You know, like they did with Harrison Ford and Sean Connery in Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade.
