Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2: 10 Reasons It's Better Than The Original
3. A Better, More Focused Narrative
The dialogue has already been discussed, but as far as the writing for Vol. 2's actual overarching plot goes, it is still a great improvement over the first Guardians of the Galaxy.
In this film, there is absolutely no wasted time when it comes to the main story. Every single thing anyone mentions proves to be relevant in some way, shape or form; everything that was established was ultimately paid off; and it truly feels like a story that was more than worth telling. In addition, the storytelling itself was incredibly concise.
Whereas the first film juggled a number of different themes, Vol. 2 picked on and ran with it. It's clear from the point the film opens to the point it ends that this is a movie about the relationships we have with others and what we make of them, a theme that is persistent and is delivered naturally through the plot without feeling shoehorned.
Every single major character gets a proper arc, be it big or small, and the way they interact with each other perfectly lends itself to the film's familial theme. Moreover, the plot itself flows seamlessly without a single hitch. No character or plot point was robbed of any time, nor were any overexposed.
As a result, the plot progresses in a fluid and natural way and makes it easier to get involved in the riveting story that the film is telling.
