Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2: 10 Reasons The Original Is Better
7. Superior Action Sequences
It would be ridiculous to say that Vol. 2 has bad action, because it absolutely doesn't, but it just feels a little more familiar and workmanlike compared to the freshness of the first film, again something of a disadvantage for many sequels.
Gunn's answer to beefing up the action seems to be a significant upping of the scale, yet ironically, the movie's epic, CGI-soaked finale is probably the least-involving and most generic set-piece in the entire film.
Even Yondu, Rocket and Groot's terrifically-staged escape from the Ravager ship just feels like an imitation of the excellent prison break sequence from the first film, which still remains the high-point of the two movies action-wise.
It's not that the sequel's set-pieces feel especially slack, just that they don't build on the first movie's action in a way that actually benefits the film, its characters or the audience.
