3. Ayesha Creates Adam

The Scene: This scene finds Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki), leader of the Sovereign people, working on the creation of an artificial being that she wants to use to destroy the Guardians.

When a lower-ranking Sovereign enters the room and questions Ayesha about the creation, Ayesha states that she'll name it "Adam", and we are shown a brief shot of some kind of golden machine or pod, which will eventually bring Adam to life.

What You Should Take Away From It: This is a reference to Adam Warlock, a Marvel Comics character created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

Adam was a core member of the original 2008 Guardians Of The Galaxy team, alongside Star-Lord, Rocket, Groot, Drax, Gamora and Quasar.

In his comic-book origin, Adam was created by a band of mad scientists called "The Enclave", and was originally known as just "Him". Like "Adele" or "Madonna".

James Gunn is a huge fan of the character, and in a recent interview with /Film, he revealed that Adam was a part of Guardians Vol. 2 in earlier drafts of the script:

“I love Adam Warlock. In all truth, I wrote an early treatment where I had Adam Warlock as a part… he was a big part of the screenplay and I realized it was one character too many. And I adored the character. I think we did something really creative and unique with Adam Warlock. But it was one character too many and I didn’t want to lose Mantis and Mantis was more organically part of the movie anyway. So I decided to save him for later.”

Gunn's quote, and the content of this mid-credit scene, paint a clear picture - Adam Warlock will be in Guardians Of The Galaxy 3.
