7. Mantis

Though the addition of another ostensibly comedic character into the group might have looked like a quick route to over-crowding, alien air-head Mantis manages to carve a unique position among the other Guardians in the sequel.

She has a wide-eyed naivety that meshes well with Drax's sledge-hammer literalness and their new dynamic is one of the best additions to the sequel. There's an issue in the fact that she hides Ego's secrets without any of the real indicators of abuse that would explain why, but it's not really fatal.

She's funny and adorable without being a shallow caricature, and crucially she'll add something new and welcome to the team in the sequel, assuming she sticks around.
