Maybe this mass-scale destruction event is the thing the Guardians are guarding the galaxy from this time, since the trailer is so clear that they're saving it again. It certainly looks like something big and scary is happening to whatever this multi-coloured Celestial looking planet is...

Wait... is this Ego the Living Planet?

James Gunn has said that we won't see Ego in his planetary form, but directors lie all the time, and you don't choose Ego without referencing who and what he is in some way. It's just a waste of a character. So maybe this is the slightest hint that we're going to see a planet-sized Ego after all.

This is clearly the same environment that is exploding in the background of the shots we've already seen of the Guardians surrounded by what appears to be a Celestial environment. So maybe they destroy him from the inside? There have been rumours that he's actually the villain of the piece, and it would explain why he only appears to be with the Guardians in one scene.
