Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 Review: 8 Ups & 3 Downs
7. They're Still The Same Guardians
You might have expected that the sequel would soften the characters a little and have them go on journeys of self-discovery that would ultimately blunt their coolness (like Han Solo, to a certain extent), but Gunn's film is resolute in its portrayal of the characters as a-holes.
They were a-holes in the first film, and even after spending time together, they are the same a-holes. Sure, they've learned things about each other, and their experiences have changed them somewhat (Groot and Drax the most), but Rocket is still a distinctly unlikeable anti-hero, Drax is mean, Star-Lord is obnoxious, Gamora is aloof... There's no compromise in who they are.
