Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2: What Does The Ending Really Mean?

10. It's STILL An Unspoken Thing

Though they flirt with the idea of becoming a couple, the important thing for Gamora and Star-Lord is that they aren't properly partnered off by the end of Vol 2. In Peter's own words, they share an unspoken thing that never quite turns into anything real and it's a good thing that we don't get to see whether Star-Lord's Rachel got off the plane.

While Gamora has her Daddy Issues to deal with, saddling her with being just another MCU romantic object would have been a bad thing. It might happen in Vol 3 after Infinity is out of the way, but I surely can't be the only one who doesn't really care to see wedded bliss in this franchise. One of them would only end up dying.

And what about Drax? Does he have feelings for Mantis? Probably not. Sure, there are some seeds that his disgust at her has turned into affection - and even romantic feelings - but it's all misdirection for his "you're beautiful... on the inside" gag at the end.

So don't expect them to pair off either.
