Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3: Everything We Know

5. Shooting Will Reportedly Begin In Early 2021

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 James Gunn rehired
Marvel Studios

Before Gunn was fired, Guardians 3 was slated to begin production in early 2019. However, his removal from the project delayed the shoot start date significantly, and now, the film won't go before cameras for another couple of years.

In October 2018, Production Weekly provided a status update for the movie, reporting that it will begin production in February 2021.

That start date makes sense. Soon after he was removed from Guardians 3, Gunn signed on to write and direct a Suicide Squad sequel for Warner Bros, with a release date being set for August 2021. The one major caveat of him returning to Marvel is that he will be doing Suicide Squad first, which does mean that Guardians 3 won't start shooting for a while, and February 2021 sounds like a plausible start date.

While it's great to have him back as director, it sucks that we'll have to wait even longer to see the movie. Still, better late than not at all.
