Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3: Everything We Know

4. It Will Release In 2022 At The Earliest

An obvious effect of a delayed shoot start date is a delayed release date, and while Guardians 3 was initially expected to open in 2020, Gunn's firing pushed that date back, and now, the movie looks like it will be a 2022 release - at best.

There have been no official announcements mind you, but a 2022 window is the safest bet based on all the information we know.

For one thing, Gunn's Suicide Squad sequel is dated for August 2021, and since that movie is first on his to-do list, Guardians 3 will launch after it. Guardians 2 released in May 2017, so if the third movie also snags a May date, May 2022 is the earliest possible window the third movie could debut (incidentally, Marvel has already staked out 6 May 2022 for an untitled film).

But if that shoot start date of February 2021 rings true, May 2022 might be cutting it a little fine. Marvel and Gunn will not want to rush this one: with all the controversy around Gunn's firing, they'll want to take their time and get it right. Don't be surprised to see Guardians 3 drop later in summer 2022 (another untitled Marvel movie is scheduled for 29 July) or even 2023.
