6. The Rocket-Centric Story Delivers The Goods

Vol. 3 is centered quite explicitly around Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), as the film divides its time between exploring his tragic backstory and quest to find peace in the present day.

Any doubt that Rocket is the heart and soul of these movies - the glue holding the Guardians together, even - will surely be obliterated by the time Vol. 3 rolls its end credits, with Gunn's decision to focus so intently on him paying off emotional dividends.

Though there are many things the film doesn't get right, almost everything about Rocket's presentation and arc throughout the movie totally works, due to both Gunn's incisive, affecting writing and Bradley Cooper's terrific vocal performance in the role.
