That Guy From That Movie: 10 Unsung Character Actors

5. David Morse

12 Monkeys David Morse Although he first came to prominence over 30 years ago in television medical drama St. Elsewhere, David Morse has been a regular fixture on cinema screens since the 1990s without ever really ascending to leading man status. Often cast as either a military or law enforcement figure, the 60 year-old has taken a string of supporting roles in many high-profile projects. As well as two well-received collaborations with director Sean Penn in the early 90s (The Indian Runner and The Crossing Guard), Morse also provided support in critical and commercial hits 12 Monkeys, The Rock and The Green Mile, as well as having a small role in Best Picture winning The Hurt Locker. Equally comfortable playing both villains and more sympathetic characters, the actor has also cropped up in genre pictures as diverse as The Long Kiss Goodnight, Contact, The Negotiator, Disturbia, 16 Blocks, Drive Angry and World War Z. Although seemingly never cast as the leading man these days, David Morse is a recognizable presence onscreen thanks to a busy career that has seen him work with directors including Terry Gilliam, Michael Bay, Richard Donner and Lars von Trier. Not many people can claim to have co-starred with the trio of Jack Nicholson, Sean Connery and Bjork, but he can.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
