Halloween: 15 Most WTF Franchise Moments (So Far)
15. Michael Myers Isn't Even In It (Halloween III: Season Of The Witch)
Halloween III: Season of the Witch is the undeniable black sheep of the franchise for one major reason: Michael Myers isn't even in it.
After Myers "died" in a fiery blaze at the end of Halloween II, fans were forced to wait seven years until Halloween 4 to get another glimpse of The Shape, while Season of the Witch instead took the form of a standalone, Twilight Zone-esque story involving microchipped Halloween masks.
John Carpenter in fact had no intention of creating a Michael Myers media empire and wanted the franchise to become a horror anthology series, though following the vitriolic response from fans expecting to see their favourite masked maniac in action, the decision was made to bring Myers back for the fourth film.
Though Season of the Witch certainly has its fans and defenders - and it's certainly not a terrible film, especially compared to most of the sequels - it was pretty damn cheeky trying to veer away from Myers while still retaining the Halloween branding.
