Halloween: Every Franchise Easter Egg And Reference Explained
5. The Gas Station And Boyfriend Troubles - Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers (1988)
There are several things it could be argued are sly references to Halloween 4. From Michael being transported to away from Smith's Grove only to escape, to a battle-worn sheriff who was present for the events of Michael's initial killings in 1978.
But the most overt reference to this sequel comes in the new film's gas station sequence, where podcasters Aaron and Dana are murdered by Michael. In Halloween 4, there is an extended sequence where Dr. Loomis stops at a gas station only to gradually discover that all of the attendants have been murdered by Michael, including a man from which Michael stole his signature jumpsuit.
In the new film, Aaron slowly realizes that all of the attendants are dead and that Michael has stolen his signature jumpsuit off of one of them. For an even deeper cut throwback, the new film's gas station also has the exact same ice machine outside as the gas station in Halloween 4.
The other reference that feels very direct is when Allyson's boyfriend, Cameron Elam (son of Lonnie Elam, of "Lonnie, get your ass away from there!" fame) cheats on her at the Haddonfield High Halloween dance. In Halloween 4, Rachel's boyfriend Brady seems all fine and well right up until she catches him cheating on her when she isn't giving him the attention he desires.
Here, Cameron does the exact same thing. In both cases, Rachel and Allyson are way better off without them.
