Halloween: Every Franchise Easter Egg And Reference Explained
4. The Devil Outfit, The Goofy Cops, And The Final Trap - Halloween 5: The Revenge Of Michael Myers (1989)
The most on-the-nose reference to Halloween 5 comes in the form of Oscar's Halloween outfit for the dance. He's dressed as a devil, with a cape and big red horns to boot. This outfit is pretty much verbatim what Samantha Thomas wore to the Halloween party in Halloween 5.
But there are also some more subtle references sprinkled throughout the third act. One of the strangest choices made in Halloween 5 was to introduce a goofy cop duo who were supposed to provide comic relief. They aren't exactly remembered fondly by most fans, but the new film does feature a reference to them.
In the third act, just before Michael arrives at Laurie's place, the movie suddenly introduces us to Officer Richard and Officer Francis and gives them a comedic moment to shine that feels more than a bit reminiscent. It features them arguing about food and sandwiches and is a pretty distinct nod to the goofy cops in Halloween 5 spending all of their time in the car arguing about nonsensical things.
The final nod to Halloween 5 comes in the form of the finale itself. Halloween 5's finale had Loomis and Jamie hiding out in the Myers house, surrounded by cops. Only for the cops to be killed off by Michael, leaving Michael to attack Loomis and Jamie inside the Myers house.
But it turned out that that was Loomis' plan all along and that he was ready for him, having set a trap to catch Michael. Similarly, the new film does this exact same thing, except it's Laurie who has the trap set for him and her trap is admittedly much more thorough than just dropping a giant chain net on him.
